'Power Up! 2005' Friends of the Earth legal and planning rights residential

This is being planned for August 5-7 in Barnsley, and is open to all. At the event, we will be working together to understand and demystify the new 'planning' and 'Freedom of Information' laws and to provide participants with the necessary tools to tackle local community campaign issues effectively. Judicial Review and Local Government will also be examined.

The residential is ideally suited for anyone involved in community or site-specific campaigning. You need not be a member of Friends of the Earth. You do not need to be an expert!

You will:

  • talk tactics and share strategies with the experts;

  • learn how to use the system to your advantage;

  • get practical tips for shaping your community;

  • examine real-life local case studies;

  • meet like-minded inspirational campaigners;

  • discuss your local campaign in staff surgeries

  • meet with official support agencies eg Planning Aid, Neighbourhood Initiative Foundation.

The residential will take place at the grand Northern College, Barnsley. There will be crèche facilities by advance arrangement, and the venue is easily accessible by rail.
