You can also give this to people who are keen to find out more about Friends of the Earth but may not be ready to get involved in your group. Make sure you slip a recruitment leaflet into the booklet so they can come back to you at a later date.

Each group gets 25 free flagship brochures. Order them using this form.

Flags will make you more visible in an event and are a popular material.

Be warned though, they are hand-made and take time to come through – you are highly unlikely to get yours immediately and may have to wait some time on a waiting list, so please prepare for that.

A flag will cost your group £25 so make sure that someone looks after it.

Order your group's flag using this form.

You can also use them to put together a welcome pack to give to new group members - see the section below to help you put this together - eg include your newsletter, a welcome letter and a local information sheet. Include the inspirational flagship brochure so they can find out more about who we are, what we do and how we work.

Leaflet dispensers and recruitment leaflets

The recruitment leaflet can be used to recruit people face-to-face or via a leaflet dispenser elsewhere. It is designed to be folded twice into a three-panel leaflet (called a DL leaflet) and is accompanied by 4 DL leaflet dispensers.

You can tailor the leaflet for different audiences, locations and purposes. For example, you might have one general recruitment leaflet, and another campaign-oriented one.

Image of a local group recruitment leaflet

The leaflet is A4 and printed on one-side only, leaving the back for you to print information about your group.

Look at this mock up sample leaflet to see what we mean.

The template is flexible and can be adapted in different ways. Some examples of this can be seen in these local group versions: Camden, Hackney & Tower Hamlets, Hillingdon and Penistone.

Order the one-side printed leaflets using this form.

Once you have received the one-sided printed leaflets, download and adapt the templates below and then print them on to the other side of the printed leaflet to make a recruitment leaflet tailored to your local group.

The sample text in the templates below aim to give you an idea of the warm language you could use and you should replace this with information tailored to your group.

Posters

These posters can be used to recruit new people to your group, alert people to your events, and get your message across at stalls or actions. You can tailor the leaflet for different audiences, locations and purposes.

Recruitment posters, A4 and A3
This recruitment poster complements the recruitment leaflet and can be tailored to carry details about your membership secretary or co-ordinator by using the templates below. This is intended to have a long lifespan in key areas of your community, so make sure your group contact details are clear and visible.

Download the English and N. Irish groups' recruitment poster template.

Download the Welsh groups' recruitment poster template.

Penistone Friends of the Earth's recruitment poster is an example of how you can use the template.

Please note: the template has been carefully made so as to fit in the white space, so please don't change the margins. The Welsh version of the poster has slightly less space to personalise.

For the A3 version, download the A4 template and add in your text. Use your photocopier settings to enlarge this to A3 and then photocopy your text onto the A3 printed poster.

Image of a placard poster on recyclingPlacard posters, A1
These large posters enable you to have your slogans or campaign calls visible from a distance to draw over interested people. You could also have several located around your area of activity, such as a stall, to alert people to your presence there.

These come blank apart from the top and bottom green banners. Groups traditionally enlarge their slogan on to sheets of A4 or A3 paper and then tile them up onto the placard. Alternatively you can write directly on it in large visible print or use it to collect signatures in a visual way.

Each group gets 5 free placard posters. Order them using this form.

Meetings posters, A4
Image of the English and N. Irish meetings poster This meetings poster has more room for you to publicise your events, like public meetings, or your presence at a fair or a farmers market.

The ‘Looking for a date?' question is intended to prompt people into thinking they'd quite like to come along and join you.

This is likely to have a shorter lifespan, so target where you put these carefully, and be prepared to remove or update them and order more as your plans change.

Order the posters using this form, then download the meetings poster template to adapt them to local needs.

Penistone Friends of the Earth's meetings poster is an example of how you can use the space available.

Top tip

South Bedfordshire Friends of the Earth's questionnaire for new members asks what issues they are interested in. You could develop a similar survey for your own group and include a copy in the welcome pack for new members. This could help make them feel that you are interested in them and help you tailor how you communicate with them.
