Local Groups Conference

Friends of the Earth's local groups conference is the biggest event in the calendar of the local groups network. It's a great opportunity for local groups, staff and Board members to get together.

It includes a number of events including the John Preedy Memorial Lecture, presentations on campaign successes by both local groups and staff, setting the agenda for the year ahead, workshops, a Motions Debate, exhibitions, plenty of networking time, a party, and much more.

Motions

This year, 5 Motions were prioritised by local groups for debate at Conference, along with the Board's procedural Motion regarding the adoption of revised Standing Orders for Conference. The results of the debate were as follows:

  • Revised Standing Orders to Conference: Passed (and therefore adopted by Conference to govern the rest of the debate)
  • Motion 1 - Anti-Nuclear Power: Passed
  • Amendment to Motion 2: Passed
  • Motion 2: Passed
  • Amendment to Motion 3: Failed
  • Motion 3: Passed
  • Amendment to Motion 4: Failed
  • Motion 4: Failed
  • Motion 5: Passed

The Motions chosen via the prioritisation ballot are detailed in the Final Motions Paper 2008, which includes details of the new Standing Orders of Conference. Passed Motions become Conference Resolutions, which the Board are required to consider. A Resolutions Paper concerning the Motions debated in 2008 and the Board's anticipated response will be prepared by the Board in the next few months, ready to be circulated to local groups in early 2009.
