Aviation is one of the fastest growing sources of climate-changing emissions in the UK and globally.

Climate change has been identified as the single biggest environmental threat facing the planet.

But at the same time, the Government have sanctioned massive airport expansion to accommodate a huge predicted growth in flights. This means new runways and terminal buildings being built around the country.

The 2003 Aviation White Paper asked airport operators around the UK to produce Airport Master Plans (AMPs). Most operators have now produced these and have submitted them into local and regional planning processes, but ultimately planning decisions are made either by local authorities or at public inquiries so opportunities to object may still remain.

The Aviation Environment Federation website: download chapters from AEF's new online handbook 'Airports and Planning', as well as recent airport planning articles and news.

Friends of the Earth Planning website: links to Friends of the Earth's guides to using the planning system, policy briefings, evidence to committees and so on. The Community Rights Resource Pack is a particularly useful resouce on this page.
