Real Food

Genetically modified food

More and more research is showing that genetic engineering has not delivered on the biotech industry’s promises of feeding the world or alleviating poverty. Neither has it benefited the environment, farmers or consumers.

The irony is that we don't need GM food. Growing GM crops threatens more sustainable methods like organic farming. We have more to benefit from investing in these than in questionable GM technology.

Friends of the Earth believes that consumers, farmers and communities have the right to choose GM-free food. Governments should support this right by putting in place tough rules to prevent GM contamination and make sure that biotechnology companies are held strictly liable for any damage their products cause.
