Climate Change Bill Autumn 2008In 2008 The Big Ask campaign will finally draw to a close. We will have the world’s first Climate Change law with legally mandated annual reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. That is fantastic news. But we can still make improvements to the Bill - improvements that scientists say are necessary if we're to avoid dangerous climate change. The next stage of the Bill is the Report Stage, probably in late October. This is most likely to be the last chance we have to ask MPs to improve the Bill. We need MPs to:
Together we've achieved fantastic results, getting MPs to sign EDMs 178 and 736 and, most recently, by getting over 80 backbench Labour MPs to support our amendments at Committee Stage. We now need to encourage those supportive MPs to stay true to their word, and vote for our amendments at Report Stage. We’ve written an action guide outlining how to lobby your MP to support our amendments. If your group would like to get involved with these last stages, please sign up below. We realise there will be an overlap between the final stages of The Big Ask and the upcoming Renewables campaign. For more information on managing these two priorities please see this briefing. Let us know if you'll be able to lobby your MP this autumn: |
