Renewables

Join the energy revolution

Welcome to the Renewables campaign pages. Here you can find out about our latest big campaign on renewable energy.

What are we campaigning for at this stage?

Now that the Day of Action has been and gone, we're changing the focus of the campaign slightly.

We're moving away from the European Renewable Energy Directive and concentrating on things closer to home.

The Directive will hopefully commit the Government to delivering 15% of energy from UK renewables by 2020. The Government will then show how it will deliver this 15% when it publishes its own Renewable Energy Strategy in March 2009.

We now have an opportunity to make sure that the Government supports a strong and sustainable renewable energy strategy here in the UK, with an ambitious program to make renewables our number one source of energy.  A strong and sustainable Strategy could generate hundreds of thousands of jobs, billions of pounds worth of business, and a secure and long lasting energy supply for the UK.

We want to see the Strategy commit to:

  • Delivering at least 15 per cent of our energy from UK renewables by 2020.
  • Making sure the energy regulator's main job is to cut climate change emissions by prioritising renewables and energy efficiency.

What's the plan?

The need for activism?

The UK needs to see a massive investment in renewable energy.  The Government needs to start acting now.

The Government will have got a bit of a taste from your Day of Action on 25 October. But they need to know that people from communities all across the country back an energy revolution.

A slightly different approach

We want you to get as many different groups, organisations and businesses in your own community to send a message to your MP, by signing the Community Action Card.  They don't need to do any more than this. Each postcard has a lot more political impact since it represents a whole group of constituents.

Obviously this is a slightly different approach. We hope this will make a refreshing change to the work your group has done before, and provide some interesting and new ways of doing things.

The Action Guide shows how to go about doing this as effectively as you can, and gives sources of support and further information.

We've also produced group discussion sheets to use at your meetings to help identify who to approach in your communities.

If you want any advice, information, support or more resources then get in touch.

Campaign resources

We've sent our resource packs to groups who signed up for the Day of Action. If your group wants to take part you can sign up for a resource pack.

Included in the pack is:

You can also download a copy of the template press release from the action guide in Word format .

Renewable energy booklet

We've produced a new booklet which looks in detail at renewable energy.
Download or order copies.

You can also take individual action at our Press for Change page.

Please do get in touch with me if you have any queries.
