The Big Ask postcard

The Big Ask postcard is still going strong, and will be valid up until at least April 2008 when the Climate Bill progresses through the House of Commons.

This is the main thing we want people to do - sign a postcard.

The Big Ask 'Friend' magazine

A special Big Ask themed issue of our slimline supporter magazine 'Friend'.

Specially designed as 8 cards (bound together) each telling a different part of The Big Ask story.

Perfect for people who linger longer at Big Ask stalls and events and would like to take some materials home with them.

Big Ask posters

The Big Ask posters - A4 and A2

The A4 posters are intended for overprinting to advertise your own local Big Ask events. They can be used in a standard printer and you can overprint in black text (see example to left). Or, if you prefer we can overprint your event details for you - just let us know.

The A2 poster has the same image and is intended as a stand alone poster for use on stalls or at events.

Big Ask flyers

The Big Ask flyers

Like the posters the flyers are intended for overprinting to advertise whatever event you are organising. (And like the posters please let us know if you'd like us to print your event details on for you).

For that reason there are two A5 flyers per A4 sheet - so that they can be put through a standard printer.

The reverse of the flyer contains a simple introduction to The Big Ask.

The Big Ask online march

Online March

The Big Ask online march encourages people to join forces and demonstrate their concern by creating their own protest video message and sharing it directly with their MP.

If you would like to use the march in your local campaigning here are a few ideas:

  • Upload your own personal video message for your MP
  • If you are organising a stall or event, tell people about the march and encourage them to join in at: www.thebigask.com
  • Do you have a supportive MP? Arrange a visit to meet them and film their video message for the site. And if they do it – tell your local media.

If you do collect video clips from other people, there’s a form you’ll need to get each person to complete - please contact Tom Wright if you'd like a copy.

An Inconvenient Truth film showings

An Inconvenient Truth ad

Action Guide for An Inconvenient Truth film showings (50 k)

What you might need: Action Guide (for you), t-shirts (for you), postcards, booklets, badges, t-shirts, 'join your local group' membership leaflets.

In a nutshell: Friends of the Earth has teamed up with the Prince Charles Cinema to put on a series of special screenings of 'An Inconvenient Truth' in 150 independent cinemas across the country during 2007. At each showing one of our climate campaigners will be on hand to host a discussion with the local MP. This will give audience members a chance to put the Big Ask to their MP. Local groups will be able to sign people up to the Big Ask, recruit members and talk to people about what they can do at home to tackle climate change.

At the moment we are still liaising with the cinemas but once we have a list of where and when each film will be showing we will post it here. If there is a screenings near you, we hope that your group will get involved in the running of the event.

Local group screenings

If you are putting on a public screening of a feature film you will need a licence. If your screening venue already has a Public Video Screening (PVS) licence then you do not need to buy an additional licence.  If it does not, you need to purchase a Single Title Licence from http://www.filmbank.co.uk/.

In schools

Many local groups have approached us about the possibility of getting An Inconvenient Truth shown in schools, but the Government have got in there first. On the 2nd February the Environment Secretary David Miliband announced that the Government will be sending a copy of An Inconvenient Truth and a Climate Change Pack to all of the secondary schools in England.

Big Ask socials

What you might need: Action Guide (for you), invitation cards (see picture - please order these from Alex Phillips), the ideas in the 'hot dinner do' guide, postcards, booklets, badges, 'Friend' magazine.

In a nutshell: Organise a social event where people can discuss climate change, consider what it means for them and find out how they can help through supporting the Big Ask. Should appeal to people who aren’t usually keen on traditional campaign events – a way of getting you non-activist friends involved. The event could be morning or afternoon coffee, lunch or dinner, or a drinks party – whatever suits you.

In a nutshell: we have put together a set of 40 questions for you to hold your own pub quiz, or join in with an already established evening.

To get the pub quiz questions please email Tom. We didn't want to put them online so that any punters couldn't sneakily check the answers in advance.
